A performance created in Lviv, Ukraine as a result of a month long residency at the Museum of Ideas, produced in collaboration with the Lviv Biennale of Contemporary Art (2012).

It was subsequently produced at the Mackenzie Art Gallery in Regina Saskatchewan Canada (2013). Followed by a third production at Artspace Hamra in Beirut, Lebanon (2017).
Inspired by the architecture of Lviv, which is classified as a UNESCO world heritage site, the video images create interplay of movement, light and color between the music and live body, tracing a physical narrative throughout the performance. The sharp and vivacious imagery, reflecting contemporary Ukrainian life, contrasts the traditional content of the performance and places importance on the duality that young people face today.
In Mourning Mavka the artists revisit, decompose, and reinvent their cultural affiliations with the Ukraine. At a crossroads between mythology and mundane urbanity, the performance explores themes present in traditional Ukrainian folklore and more specifically Ukrainian folk ballads, touching on ideas of marriage and religious traditions in relationship to the body and to contemporary society.
