Two live experiments by Nadine Sures (body/voice) and Nour Sokhon (sound), entitled “Revisiting Impulses” (Sep, 2019) and “Revisiting Impulses II” (Feb, 2020) took place at Riwaq in Beirut, Lebanon. Body, voice, objects, and sound were the ingredients used on stage to convey impulsive fight-or-flight responses.
These impulsive fight-or-flight responses are a representation of the Arab identity, of the Lebanese identity. In the Beirut experiments, Nadine uses her voice, body, and objects on stage to build the impulsive and improvised narrative of the performance, Nour plays pre-recorded field recordings in a musical manner. In addition, all the audible elements that are being fed through the microphones are reprocessed live using a computer-generated music sequencer into a spatio-temporal soundtrack.
